Part III – MUSEUM – ANOTHER DIMENSION “Francesco Lazaro Guardi” – Venetian painter from the Rococo era

Venice – a city on the water, many famous artists sought inspiration for their works of art. One of the most beautiful European cities, a favorite destination for romantics, lovers of history, architecture and art.

Francesco Lazaro Guardi, a nobleman and painter, was one of the last representatives of the Venetian school of painting.

He was born on 05.10. 1712. Venice in a noble family from Trentino, died in Campiello de la Madonna in Canareggio, Venice on 01.01. 1793.

His father Domenico Guardia (1678-1716), and his brothers Niccolo and Gian Antonio were also painters. His sister Maria Cecilia married the eminent Veneto-European painter of his era, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.

After his father’s death in 1716 they inherited the family workshop. Together with his older brother Gian Antonio, he painted religious scenes.

From 1735 until 1743 he also worked in the workshop of Michele Marieschi or Michele Giovanni Marieschi, also Michiel (01.12.1710 –  18.01.1744), also known as Michiel, was an Italian painter and engraver. He is mostly known for his vedute landscapes and cityscapes.

On February 15, 1757, he married Maria Mattea Pagani, the daughter of the painter Matteo Pagani. In 1760, his brother Gian Antonio died and his first son Vincenzo was born. His second son, Giacomo, was born in 1764.

After his brother’s death in 1760, he concentrated on the views and landscapes for which he was known. The influence of Canaletto is visible on them. He painted with extraordinary ease.
